Another of our 2016 real elopements…

Mari and Dan travelled all the way from Australia for their elopement wedding here in March 2016.   They were travelling round Europe when Dan said, ‘hey why don’t we get married?’ – so they did! Mari wore a gorgeous pale grey chiffon and silver sequin dress with a cute white feather stole for warmth.   She wanted a red and black wedding bouquet with matching buttonhole for Dan who looked splendid in his 3 piece suit hired locally in Tavistock. Mari wanted a 1940’s vintage curled style for her hair and a smoky eye for her make up.  Chloe from The Hair Lounge Tavistock and Jess from Visage Aesthetic both came to the venue on the morning of the wedding to do Mari’s hair and make up. After the humanist wedding ceremony performed by Denise and Nicola of Cornish Celebrants, Mari and Dan took their glasses of champagne and had a photo session in the venue grounds and on … Continue reading

Flowers in your hair on your wedding day…

This gorgeous slide show from Style Me Pretty of fresh flowers for wedding hair caught my eye this morning on my newsfeed.   Some of those have definitely gone on my Hair Inspiration Pinterest board so do pop over and take a look. Follow Ever After’s board hair inspiration on Pinterest. It got me thinking about some of our brides this summer who totally rocked this style, which is perfect for an English summer garden wedding.    Three of our brides had the lovely Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers for their wedding flowers.   Deborah created all the bouquets for each wedding and also provided the flowers for the brides’ hair.   Jenny & Shaun got married here at the end of July.  Jenny’s hair was styled by local wedding hair and make up specialist Gem Ryder.   Gem tells me “Jenny wanted to keep her hair simple, relaxed and romantic so I added some gentle waves to her short hair, pulling back … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 7 – bouquet ribbons

I loved this post from the lovely Rona of Flowerona the moment I saw it. Ribbons on bridal bouquets don’t sound like a big deal but when you see these, they are so gorgeous! Brides magazine also featured this trend a couple of months ago: The ribbons can be different lengths, widths and colours.   They make such an impact and are a fab way of tying in and bringing your wedding colours together. If you’re into DIY there are various great online tutorials you can use to dye your own ribbons, I like this one here from Green Wedding Shoes. And this tutorial from Botanical Brouhaha uses avocado skins and elderberries to create subtle organic colours and just look at those finished results. If you want to buy in your ribbons there’s the amazing US based Silk & Willow which supply plant dyed silk ribbons and is used by a lot of UK florists.  The subtle colours on their website are super … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 6 – lighting

Something that I’ve seen featured increasingly on wedding blogs and real wedding articles is lighting. As Michelle from Pocketful of Dreams wrote in her 2015 trends article for Love My Dress, lighting “is one of the most important elements for setting the right tone and ambience.”   One of their predictions for 2015 is “chandeliers in unexpected places” to which we say “YES!”  One of our most popular shots by the super talented Emma Solley from one of our photo shoots was this photo with the chandelier in our spectacular acer tree: and I’ve been talking with couples booked for this year who want to bring in lighting in the trees, either with chandeliers or with hanging candles. Lighting can transform an outdoor space in the evening, candles, lanterns, fairy lights, they all add to the creation of a magical atmosphere.   Layering is also important with lighting so you have firelight and candlelight and fairylights, each one making its own contribution … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 5: sequins

Love My Dress, Sarah Dawson of Perfect Wedding, The Cake Blog and The Knot are all talking about sequins as a wedding trend for 2015. Sequins are a great way of adding a touch of glamour and sparkle to any wedding and you can use as much or as little as you like according to your own taste. Adding sequins to your bridesmaids dresses is an easy way of bringing in the sequins and will certainly let your bridesmaids stand out on the day. I particularly loved the bridesmaids in the mix and match skirts and sequin tops above, they bring in two trends in one, metallics AND sequins. You can also use sequins in other aspects of your wedding decor, table cloths or table runners are a way of bringing the sparkle to your table settings.   And of course there’s the bridal frock to scatter with sequins.   With designers such as Jenny Packham and Temperley Bridal having sequins as part … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 – part 4: Colours

In our continuing look at the predicted wedding trends of 2015 (you can read part 1, part 2 and part 3 here), today we’re looking at trending colours. When it comes to picking colours for your wedding, start with what you love.   If there’s a colour you’ve always favoured, use it whether it’s in vogue or not, it’s your wedding and you should use the colours you feel good in and comfortable with. Looking at trends can help bring a bit of extra style and freshness to your day, you could use the trend colour as an accent rather than a main colour if you prefer. Quite a few spotters are talking about metallics and in particular copper when it comes to 2015 wedding trends.  Using silver and gold accents is a great way to add a touch of luxe to your wedding look and has been used in all kinds of ways from dress embellishments to table decorations … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 3 – the ‘must-have’ flower trend

In part 1 and part 2 of this look at 2015 wedding trends, we looked at the point of trends and how you can use them to create a wedding personal to you rather than simply following a fashion. Now we’re diving into the detail starting with FLOWERS, looking both at what the trends are and how they fit into the style and feel here at Ever After. The articles on 2015 flower trends that I looked at all zeroed in on the ‘just picked’ look for wedding flowers for this year as being the most important trend. It’s essential to speak with your florist about how to achieve this look because in practice it’s harder than it looks.   That’s partly because a lot of wild flowers won’t hold up on a hot summer’s day without water even with the best conditioning in advance by the florist.   If you’re thinking of doing your flowers yourself, do read up on … Continue reading

2015 Wedding Trends – part 2

In my last post I looked at the point of wedding trends.   One benefit of wedding trend chatter is it can provide a focus when you’re feeling overwhelmed by so much PRETTY STUFF and you want to have it all but then what would that look like..? I’m not talking about wedding themes although they can be great fun if you have something personal to you as a couple.  I’m talking about trying to nail down the overall look and feel of the day, the style.   Because style isn’t just there for it’s own sake, it creates an atmosphere, it affects the mood of your guests, it’s the thing that makes guests say, ‘oh it just fitted you perfectly as a couple’ – that’s what you’re looking for when you’re seeking out your wedding style. So in trawling through all the various ideas and trends, you’re looking for what speaks to YOU, what do you love and why … Continue reading
