conker gin; wedding ginspiration #2

conker gin; wedding ginspiration #2   If you read our last ginspiration blog post, then you’ll know what all this gin-tasting hype is about… And if you didn’t, catch-up here. conker gin Conker gin is a unique and intricate gin of ten select botanicals, distilled and bottled at Dorset’s first gin distillery in Bournemouth. It’s a classic gin, led by a dry juniper heart, but is mixed with elderberries, samphire, and gorse flowers which give it a light a refreshing edge. ‘Gin on the rocks’ is the recommended way to enjoy, if you’re brave enough. (I am certainly not…). There are a few facts… but let’s get down to the tasting notes.   tasting Firstly, Euan tried it straight and said it was floral, subtle and soft. The initial smell was much harsher than it tasted, but all-round it is unmistakably a dry gin. We then had the gin with ice, lime, and fever tree tonic (of course) and came … Continue reading

wedding ginspiration; kyrö napue

wedding ginspiration; kyrö napue   You may have seen some recent activity about our brand new pop-up lounges (if not, click here). We are super excited about them. The furniture and decor are all fabulous and we can’t wait to see the lounges in full swing (hopefully at every summer wedding next year… 2018 couples…?). But it’s not just about the aesthetics (although they are great), it’s also about the drink. To ensure we’ve selected the best gins, champagnes, and whiskeys for the lounges we (obviously) need to try them first… kyrö napue For this ginspiration blog post we’re focusing on the rye gin ‘Napue’ from the Kyrö distillery in Finland. Napue gin was voted as “The World’s Best Gin for Gin & Tonic” by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2015 and in 2016 Napue won the gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirit Competition premium gin-series. (You can find out more about the distillery and the gin itself of the distillery … Continue reading

Pop up lounges – it’s a thing…

As I sent the skinny to all our booked couples yesterday on our new pop up lounges, I can give the lounges a big shout out here. The lovely S and I lay under a palm tree in February, we were musing about what we could bring our couples that would get them leaping out their chairs with excitement.  After a while we suddenly came up with the idea of pop up lounges.  Of course!   They’re a great add on that you can choose if you want to or not if you don’t.   They’re a fab way to surprise your guests when they’ve already wined and dined in style throughout your day. Soooo, there are two different lounges, you can hire them together or separately.   The whiskey & cigar lounge comes with all the furnishings to create an old style club feel.  So a vintage leather chesterfield, leather and aluminium club chairs, persian rug, art deco drinks … Continue reading

Our new ideas for adding edible flowers to your wedding reception drinks & cocktails

A few weeks ago I teamed up with mixologist Catherine Cheek of Christopher Piper Wines Limited and Jan, the owner of Maddocks Organics edible flower farm, to put together some ideas and inspiration we could pass on to our couples for their wedding reception drinks and cocktails using edible flowers from Jan’s farm. Catherine with her background in botanicals and her years of experience as a mixologist came up with a great range of drinks and cocktails which looked amazing and tasted even better!  Jan supplied all the flowers and I had the tough job of official taster!  I wanted to focus on boutique suppliers in the West Country who hand-craft their products using natural ingredients and traditional methods.   We set out to showcase West Country talent and design a list to inspire our couples to reflect Dartmoor, Devon and the English countryside generally.  Catherine did a great job with that brief and selected small batch spirits and unusual … Continue reading
