Real elopement; Amber and Dan

Real Elopement; Amber and Dan   Last week, our elopement photographer, Clare Kinchin, wrote a blog post about our very own real elopement couple, Amber and Dan, which you can read here. This inspired me to tie-in with Clare’s post and give a 3-part breakdown of Amber and Dan’s real elopement wedding…   The outfits… I love a wedding dress (have you guessed that yet?) and I especially love a bespoke handmade one. Amber made her wedding dress (yes, really!) and this fantastic two-piece wonder was the result. And to accessorise, Amber had some super cute unicorn shoes and a sparkly silver starry headpiece… Gorgeous! And it wasn’t just Amber who was sporting the silver sparkles at this real elopement… Her daughter wore the daintiest little silver shoes and a sparkly headband to match. Plus super fabulous silver sparkly tights! (Are you starting to notice a theme here…?). And I loved her ivory dress with the super snug fluffy cardigan! So cute! Dan avoided the silver sparkles and … Continue reading

Walking in a winter wonderland; elopement wedding ideas

Elopement wedding ideas Part 3; walking in a winter wonderland   I don’t know what it is, but there is something particularly romantic about a winter wedding, wouldn’t you agree? Add that to the already existing romance of our elopement weddings and, voila, you’ve got yourself a wedding more (can you guess?) yep, romantic than when Harry met Sally… Plus, what a great theme! As we are all about the elopement weddings ideas, I just couldn’t resist showcasing this fab winter wedding! And before you say ‘but it’s summer’, I know, and it seems a tad strange writing about frosty mornings when the sun is blazing outside (okay, not blazing, but let’s at least pretend Britain knows how to summer…) but, there is still time to book a winter wedding for the end of 2017, so get your creative juices flowing and be inspired by Kay and Andrew’s wintery style. Kay wore this fabulous tea-length dress with frosted lace, adding to their December style… What a … Continue reading

Vintage meets intimate; elopement wedding ideas Part 2

Elopement wedding ideas Part 2; vintage meets intimate at a gorgeous afternoon tea Vintage? Tick! This week’s focus is entirely vintage, and thanks to Marianne and Rob, we’ve got some fab inspirational photos for you. Before we get started, here’s something to remember… There is (unfortunately) always a time and place for compromise, but your Elopement Wedding at Ever After is definitely not one of those times or places, trust me (unless you’re the groom, in which case there will inevitably be some compromising for you…sorry!). Who doesn’t love lace? Marianne had the vintage lace sorted with her co-ordinating shoes and dress. (Couldn’t resist an image of Marianne showcasing her elegant style!) And thanks to Amanda Randell, our elopement wedding florist, Marianne’s natural bouquet emphasised the theme with the neutral colours and a mix of different foliage. Plus, it looked great on the wedding breakfast table atop the silver-grey tablecloths and white napkins… What would your elopement wedding bouquet look like? Now for … Continue reading

Spotlight on one of our 2016 weddings…

We’re moving into June for our spotlight this week, a time in the garden where you seem to have the best of both worlds with the spring rhododendrons still in full bloom but also the start of the roses and a real sense of summer on its way. Johanna and Andy lived in Hull at the time of their booking and Tavistock definitely took on a Yorkshire flavour for the weekend of their wedding with their guests filling the local accommodation.    The venue was booked 14 months before the wedding.  After the booking came the lovely news that there would be an additional guest at the wedding, Johanna was pregnant and the baby would be 5 months old by the time of the wedding day.   So as if Johanna didn’t have enough to do organising the wedding, she was also dealing with her pregnancy and a lively toddler, the gorgeously named Amber Lily who was going to be … Continue reading

Our look at 2017 wedding trends – part 2

Last week we started our look at the most talked-about 2017 wedding trends (for part 1 click here).   This week we thought we’d highlight a few of the other trends forecast by our friends over at Coco Wedding Venues. Starting with shades of nude.   We saw some of these here last year in bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, flowers, cakes and table settings.  Carrying over a colour into all aspects of the wedding style creates a coherent look that seems effortless (but isn’t!). These nude bridesmaids’ gown from Georgia & Lee’s wedding make a big contribution to the colour.   And don’t forget the groom and his guys, the pale grey groomsmen’s suits from Charlotte & Luke’s wedding make an impact too. Nudes and neutrals can be carried through from dress through to flowers and other accessories such as shoes and sandles.    Mis-matched bridesmaids’ and flower girl dresses give you a wide choice of colours and textures and … Continue reading

Our look at the 2017 wedding trends – part 1

I thought we’d take a look at some of the predicted 2017 wedding trends that are being talked about right now.   I mentioned Coco Wedding Venues 2017 wedding trend report which you can see over on their website and we’re getting a lot of reports and predictions in our inbox now about what’s coming up. I look at the trends, of course I do, I’m in the wedding business.   I’m also interested in trends and fashion generally, I like to keep up with new things.   But with interior and fashion trends, if I don’t like the look of it or I don’t think it will suit me or my home, I pass over it, no biggie.   It’s the same with wedding trends, there are some I just don’t get so I don’t adopt them.   Last year a number of trends mentioned tropical colours and flowers, I didn’t see how that would fit with the venue and … Continue reading

Wedding ceremony arches…

I had a question in my inbox today from one of our 2017 brides asking about our wooden arches available for use in your wedding ceremony.    As I was emailing the info over to Lisa I thought it would be a good topic for a blog post so here we are – thanks for the inspiration Lisa! We have a couple of wooden arches, made by previous couples and kindly donated to us for use by future couples getting married here at Ever After – our couples are super generous! The first one we have is a simple wooden arch which can be decorated with flowers and with or without fabric which we have here, the fabric was donated at the end of August by another couple (thanks Lowri and Geoff!). Alex and Danny decorated the arch with flowers and foliage by Amanda Randell: Johanna and Andy had a fuller half height floral arch on the same structure this … Continue reading

Cady & Sam’s pics up on our real weddings page…

Cady & Sam asked for our recommendations for a photographer, florist and cake maker for their Devon wedding here at Ever After and they booked some of our fave wedding suppliers. We’ve known Emma of Freckle Photography since we first opened back in 2013 – we did our first ever photo shoot here with Emma and she is now so super popular for weddings, if you want to book Emma, you’d better get in early! Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers has a hand-picked, garden style that works beautifully with the venue as you can see from this gorgeous pic of Cady’s wedding bouquet with the most perfect peonies and heavenly scented roses. Jenny of Edible Essence is a cake supremo – her naked cake for Cady & Sam’s wedding was a wonder!  Deborah provided the flowers for the cake and I dressed the cake table with silver grey linen, tea lights, lanterns and more flowers – the perfect backdrop for a … Continue reading

Winter elopement photo shoots up on the website…

I got on a roll putting up the photos from the Magnolia Rouge shoot this morning so thought I would get on and do the winter elopement shoots we did here last year with our elopement photographer Clare Kinchin, our elopement florist Amanda Randell and our preferred elopement hair and make up duo, Jodie and Chloe from The Hair Lounge Tavistock and Jess from Visage Aesthetics. The lovely Kayleigh and Ben were our local, real life models who had got married in real life a few months earlier.   They’re just so lovely together, it was like being at a real wedding! I wanted to do a shoot here in December because I wanted to give couples a realistic view of what the garden looks like here in the winter.   There are no leaves on the trees and nothing is in flower but the venue still has its own natural beauty as you can see from the photos. We … Continue reading

Amanda Randell and the leaf cloak…

Amanda Randell is one of the few Master florists in the UK and how lucky are we that she lives just down the road from us here at Ever After?    I was at the Chelsea Flower Show when Amanda won a gold medal for her work in 2014.   Not only is she an amazing florist, she is a super lovely person and she LOVES weddings!  She works out of her gorgeous little studio at her home at Green Oak Barn just outside Tavistock. Amanda is a creative genius when it comes to flowers and all things floral.   Here’s a sample of some of the works of floral art she has created: So I was really excited when I heard about the cloak of leaves, especially when Amanda told me it had been photographed by another of our local super talents, Maggie Mccall. And the results don’t disappoint – take a look at this shot on location at … Continue reading

Part 2 of our interview with Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers…

Today in part 2 of our interview with Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers, (you can read part 1 here), we’re looking at the beautiful bouquets Deborah created for Fiona and James’s wedding here in June 2015. Of course it also helps to have a great photographer to capture the beauty of the flowers but that’s another post! Fiona and James engaged local photographer Nick Walker who took all these great photos of the wedding flowers. Fiona’s bridal bouquet created by Deborah contained the flowers we talked about yesterday, pale pink peonies, cream and lilac stocks, blue cornflowers, ammi (lace flower), pale pink astilbe and in an echo of the wedding flower arch in the wedding barn, the hanging green amaranthus, all of which you can identify in the photos above. These photos of Fiona and James show that Deborah perfectly created the feel that Fiona wanted – spring pastel colours, looking natural and hand-picked. Deborah told me that the pinterest page she … Continue reading

An in-depth behind-the-scenes look at a real life Ever After wedding flowers story…

As we’ve finished our summer wedding season I thought I’d look back at the detail of some of the weddings we’ve had here at Ever After in 2015.  I’m thrilled to be able to share this behind the scenes look at the wedding flowers from one of our early weddings this year.   Fiona and James were married here at Ever After in the first week of June and after asking me for recommendations for local florists, they engaged one of our favourites, Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers to create their wedding flowers. Fiona and James made arrangements to meet Deborah here at the venue.   They had some ideas about floral decor and wanted to meet on site to see whether their ideas were practical.  I asked Deborah to take us through the process with couples, using Fiona and James as an example, how to choose which arrangements to have and how to pick which flowers to use.   Deborah created a … Continue reading

A timeless classic wedding at Ever After…

Alex and Danny got married here at Ever After in August.  A day filled with traditional elements made for a beautiful, classy wedding.  These moments of bride Alex captured first in the silvered mirror of our honeymoon cottage, then walking through the garden with her father to the wedding barn and finally with groom Danny on the river walk are timeless images. Alex chose award winning local florist Amanda Randell  to decorate a wooden arch for the wedding ceremony, supply the bridal bouquets and create the centrepieces for the wedding breakfast tables.   We loved the mix of blue hydrangeas, cafe au lait dahlias (my personal favourite this year) vuvuzela roses and erygnium (the ones that look a bit like thistles), a perfect colour combination. Amanda also supplied the flowers for the cake which was made by a family member.   The cake itself had been simply decorated with white royal icing and was transformed into something truly spectacular by Amanda … Continue reading

Flowers in your hair on your wedding day…

This gorgeous slide show from Style Me Pretty of fresh flowers for wedding hair caught my eye this morning on my newsfeed.   Some of those have definitely gone on my Hair Inspiration Pinterest board so do pop over and take a look. Follow Ever After’s board hair inspiration on Pinterest. It got me thinking about some of our brides this summer who totally rocked this style, which is perfect for an English summer garden wedding.    Three of our brides had the lovely Deborah of Dartmoor Flowers for their wedding flowers.   Deborah created all the bouquets for each wedding and also provided the flowers for the brides’ hair.   Jenny & Shaun got married here at the end of July.  Jenny’s hair was styled by local wedding hair and make up specialist Gem Ryder.   Gem tells me “Jenny wanted to keep her hair simple, relaxed and romantic so I added some gentle waves to her short hair, pulling back … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 7 – bouquet ribbons

I loved this post from the lovely Rona of Flowerona the moment I saw it. Ribbons on bridal bouquets don’t sound like a big deal but when you see these, they are so gorgeous! Brides magazine also featured this trend a couple of months ago: The ribbons can be different lengths, widths and colours.   They make such an impact and are a fab way of tying in and bringing your wedding colours together. If you’re into DIY there are various great online tutorials you can use to dye your own ribbons, I like this one here from Green Wedding Shoes. And this tutorial from Botanical Brouhaha uses avocado skins and elderberries to create subtle organic colours and just look at those finished results. If you want to buy in your ribbons there’s the amazing US based Silk & Willow which supply plant dyed silk ribbons and is used by a lot of UK florists.  The subtle colours on their website are super … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 5: sequins

Love My Dress, Sarah Dawson of Perfect Wedding, The Cake Blog and The Knot are all talking about sequins as a wedding trend for 2015. Sequins are a great way of adding a touch of glamour and sparkle to any wedding and you can use as much or as little as you like according to your own taste. Adding sequins to your bridesmaids dresses is an easy way of bringing in the sequins and will certainly let your bridesmaids stand out on the day. I particularly loved the bridesmaids in the mix and match skirts and sequin tops above, they bring in two trends in one, metallics AND sequins. You can also use sequins in other aspects of your wedding decor, table cloths or table runners are a way of bringing the sparkle to your table settings.   And of course there’s the bridal frock to scatter with sequins.   With designers such as Jenny Packham and Temperley Bridal having sequins as part … Continue reading

Wedding trends 2015 part 3 – the ‘must-have’ flower trend

In part 1 and part 2 of this look at 2015 wedding trends, we looked at the point of trends and how you can use them to create a wedding personal to you rather than simply following a fashion. Now we’re diving into the detail starting with FLOWERS, looking both at what the trends are and how they fit into the style and feel here at Ever After. The articles on 2015 flower trends that I looked at all zeroed in on the ‘just picked’ look for wedding flowers for this year as being the most important trend. It’s essential to speak with your florist about how to achieve this look because in practice it’s harder than it looks.   That’s partly because a lot of wild flowers won’t hold up on a hot summer’s day without water even with the best conditioning in advance by the florist.   If you’re thinking of doing your flowers yourself, do read up on … Continue reading
