Spotlight on one of our 2016 weddings…

We’re moving into June for our spotlight this week, a time in the garden where you seem to have the best of both worlds with the spring rhododendrons still in full bloom but also the start of the roses and a real sense of summer on its way. Johanna and Andy lived in Hull at the time of their booking and Tavistock definitely took on a Yorkshire flavour for the weekend of their wedding with their guests filling the local accommodation.    The venue was booked 14 months before the wedding.  After the booking came the lovely news that there would be an additional guest at the wedding, Johanna was pregnant and the baby would be 5 months old by the time of the wedding day.   So as if Johanna didn’t have enough to do organising the wedding, she was also dealing with her pregnancy and a lively toddler, the gorgeously named Amber Lily who was going to be … Continue reading

Elopement menu food shoot…

Some of you may already have seen some of our pics on Instagram from the elopement food photo shoot we did a few weeks ago with our private chef Harrie from Boo To  A Goose. Guy Harrop (my go-to person for food shoots, he’s the best) came back to the venue this time for another first, shooting our elopement wedding menu. Harrie is our exclusive chef for our elopement weddings (more details here if you are interested in an elopement) and she has designed 3 menus just for us for autumn, winter and spring. In the pic above you can see a some of Harrie’s starters of (bottom left) seared scallops with pea puree and chorizo butter; (top right) seared prawn with shaved fennel salad, avocado cream, ruby grapefruit and sweet potato crisp while bottom right is artichoke and parmesan pannacotta, pickled girolles, brown sherry jelly and grain mustard – I mean YUM! Next up we have a selection of main … Continue reading

Our new ideas for adding edible flowers to your wedding food

A few weeks ago we did another food & drink shoot here on site with our favourite food photographer, Guy Harrop.   This time I brought our chefs from our outside caterers together with Jan, the owner of Maddocks Organics edible flower farm, to put together some ideas and inspiration we could pass on to our couples for their wedding reception food using edible flowers from Jan’s farm.   Honeysuckle scones and whole roses in this seasons must-have dessert, the edible flower jelly were my personal favourites. Click here to download our list to inspire you for your own wedding.   Catherine has helpfully included comprehensive instructions for each drink so you can mix them at home and play around with the recipe to make it truly personal. So go on, give your guests something unexpected that reflects the location and ties in with your wedding style…

Outside caterers – what you need to know…

Many couples planning their outdoor wedding may not have used outside caterers before for an event.   Here at Ever After we have one caterer we work with exclusively, Outside Inn Cuisine, owned and run by Philip and Andrew who also have the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford.   This means couples can go to the restaurant to taste the food in comfort and check the quality of the food on offer before they book with us.   For us food is a really important part of your wedding day and we value our link with a local restaurant who can provide the very best quality wedding food for your day. So what are some of the things you need to look out for when you’re dealing with outside caterers?  These questions are posed by wedding planner extraordinaire Sarah Haywood in her book the Wedding Bible: is the cooking and catering equipment included in the price? All kitchen equipment is included … Continue reading
