Save the date cards are an idea imported from the States which has become increasingly popular in the UK.   They are often sent out 12 months before the wedding date so that guests are aware of the date well in advance and can keep your date free.

Wedding invitations are not usually sent out more than 2 months in advance but if you want a consistent feel to your wedding stationery, you may need to think about finalising your stationery design early so that all your stationery fits together.
