Food and drink

Marriage is a celebration of love, so what better reason to eat, drink and be merry! Delicious food, sumptuous cake and drinks reception, it's all taken care of...

Elopement Menu

On arrival the day before your wedding, you’ll find tea, coffee, milk & biscuits in the honeymoon cottage. Get that kettle on.

In the fridge you’ll see bacon, sausages & eggs for a cooked breakfast if you fancy it the next day. There’ll also be yoghurt & berries, bread & jam, OJ & pastries. You have breakfast when it suits you both mornings and we’ll top it up on the wedding day if you run out of anything. Who’s on breakfast duty?

The only meal you have to think about during your stay here is the night you arrive. You can go out somewhere locally (we can make recommendations), order in (we recommend Robertsons Pizza in Tavistock who deliver to the cottage) or you can bring your own food to cook, the cottage has a fully working kitchen with pretty much everything you might need.

On your elopement day, canapes are served at your mini drinks reception. After that it’s soon time for your wedding breakfast – as the first meal you eat as a married couple, it’s ‘breakfast’ ( just in case you were expecting a Full English)

The caterers have a kitchen set up on site at the venue and come here to cook just for you on the day. You can choose your canapes and pick a wedding breakfast menu to suit you* with our caterers, Taylors of Tavistock.

*All the people in your wedding party including your guests need to choose the same menu. With exclusive use for tiny numbers (you are the only customers in the whole ‘restaurant’ that day) it’s just not possible for people to have individual menus although the chef is happy to cater for any dietary requirements eg veggie, vegan, GF etc.

There isn’t a free menu tasting with elopement weddings – they’re just too small. Taylors are very happy to have a food tasting for you at their restaurant in Tavistock but there’ll be a charge.

The elopement price includes a mezze platter for the evening for you and any guests which we’ll put to one side for you, with extra crockery, cutlery and napkins so you can serve yourselves whenever you like.

Elopement Bar & Drink

After your elopement ceremony, we pop the champagne corks and it’s time for your drinks reception - yay

Your mini drinks reception will be in the garden/patio, on the terrace or in the Garden Room – weather dependent. The canapes you’ve chosen with the caterers will be served at 12.30pm (can you remember what you chose?) and then Clare will whisk you off for your couple pics. Your guests can relax and we’ll keep the bubbles & canapes flowing.

Clare will make sure you’re back at Ever After HQ at 1.30pm for your wedding breakfast to be served which is always on the terrace. We include ½ bottle of champagne per person in the price which we generally serve at your drinks reception. If you prefer, you can take it home with you, we’ll put it to one side for you.

You can bring your own drinks for the rest of the day. We provide tea & coffee and water on the day free of charge. In the run up to your elopement we’ll ask you what drinks you’re bringing. Whether that’s beer, wine, spirits (don’t forget the soft drinks) we’ll set up a drinks trolley for you with all the glasses, ice etc you need. We don’t charge corkage – yay!

Let's talk cake! After all is it really a wedding without cake..?

If you’re not a cake kinda person (who even are you?) you can take it away with you and give it away to someone who is. We provide a handy cake box to take any wedding cake away with you when you leave here whether you’re taking the whole thing or part of it.

You get to choose the flavour and design of your wedding cake. It’ll be hand-crafted by our cordon bleu chef/patissiere who’ll bake and decorate it to your order. You can go naked, semi-naked or iced, drips or flowers (to match your bouquet) or everything! Your cake, your choice.

If you don’t know much about cakes, take a look around our real elopement galleries and pick out a couple you like the look of for inspiration. If you prefer to leave it to the cake expert, just let the cake maker know and she’ll create something fab for you. You’re welcome to bring your own personalised cake topper, we’ll pop that on for you.

Any flavour you like

The cake can be whatever flavour your heart desires; here are some yummy combinations. Dietary requirements (veggie, vegan, GF) can be catered for – everyone must have cake!

Double chocolate
Lemon curd
Orange & salted caramel
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
Coffee & walnut
Lime & passionfruit
Apple & blackcurrant

Frequently asked questions about food & drink...

Can we bring our own drinks?

We include a bottle of champagne to celebrate the fact you for real just went and got actual married – pop the cork! You can bring in your own drinks for the rest of the day so that’s wine for your meal, maybe some more bubbles, beer, soft drinks, some spirits & mixers for cocktails...

Do the caterers account for food allergies?

Yes all main dietary requirements are catered for, vegetarian, vegan, GF, seafood, lactose etc. Just let the caterers know what the situation is and they’ll make sure that’s taken care of for you.

Can we choose the flavour of our wedding cake?

You’re very welcome to choose your cake flavour and style with Harrie. There’s not much call for old school fruit cakes these days (but you can have one if that’s your thing) so there are flavours like white choc & raspberry, red velvet, orange & salted caramel, classic raspberry Victoria or lime & passionfruit.
