Spotlight on another of our 2016 weddings…

Kate & John lived in Leicestershire but had close family ties in Devon.   They were married in Tavistock church on a beautiful sunny day at the end of May 2016.

Kate got ready for the wedding here at the honeymoon cottage together with her bridesmaids.   Flowers were created with love by Kate’s Mum and her Mother in Law.

Hair and make up for Kate were by Nicola Pettitt who came to the honeymoon cottage on the morning of the wedding.

Kate had five bridesmaids, two of whom stayed over with Kate at the honeymoon cottage the night before, the others joined the next morning for hair, make up and all the general morning preparations.2016-09-15_0023

Our bus service brought all the wedding guests back to the venue from the church after their 3 pm church wedding service.   Guests were brought to the wedding barn where a drinks station was set up with elderflower bubbly served in flutes dressed with fairy violas supplied by Jan at Maddocks Farm Organics.   After the arrival of the bride and groom from church, guests were led to the lower lawns for a drinks reception including the very popular mini fish & chip canapes.

After the drinks reception guests moved into the wedding marquee for a wedding breakfast of new season asparagus, avocado and edible flower salad, followed by slow cook Devon Ruby beef short rib tip, baby carrots & mustard mash and ending with a dessert trio of lemon tart, chocolate brownie with honeycombe & crème brûlée with lavender biscuits.   The round tables were laid up with silver grey table linen and decorated with jars of flowers arranged by the mothers of the bride and groom.   75 metres of home made bunting was brought in and used to decorate the bar area and walk way.

Speeches for this wedding were full of tears and laughter with a joint main speech by two of the bridesmaids, a lovely speech by the groom and a final speech by the bride who had everyone laughing and crying in equal measure.

The wedding cake was another family contribution with bride’s sister Claire making the cake beautifully decorated with colourful bunting and flowers to go with the colours of the day.   The cake was displayed on one of our log slice with lanterns and tea lights.

Evening entertainment was provided by ceilidh band Lucy Lastic who kept guests on their feet until evening sustenance arrived in the form of a large cheese wedding cake supplied by Country Cheeses of Tavistock served along with the wedding cake.   After the band, guests danced to an ipod playlist curated specially by their bride and groom.

Kate & John chose an honesty bar in the evening run by Ever After bar staff who kept guests topped up with bottled beer and cider, a selection of wines and soft drinks.   Elderflower and rose cordial was available to guests free of charge all night from our glass drinks dispensers.   Suggested drinks prices were £2 for alcoholic drinks and Kate & John supplied plastic glasses to avoid any late night breakages.   The bar closed at 12.15 am, music finished at 12.30 am and guests were off site by 1 pm.
