a fun filled afternoon tea wedding with peacock colours
having settled on an afternoon tea wedding, jennifer and chris were clear from the start they wanted a colourful and fun filled day. they decided on a peacock colour palette which threaded through the day from Jennifer’s shoes, the flowers, the ribbon backdrop, the bride’s shoes and even her eye shadow! jennifer wore a stunning beaded dress against which her colourful shoes and vibrant brooch bouquet stood out.
guests enjoyed a choice of fentimans ginger beer, victorian lemonade, rose lemonade, and curiosity cola in individual bottles served from wooden crates with coloured straws on arrival at the top ponds before the ceremony.
the wedding barn was decorated with a mix of colourful decor items including their ribbon backdrop. bright orchids in tall water-filled glass tubes supplied by trugs of exeter lined the aisle, guests were sat in a semi circle inside the wedding barn
jennifer & chris chose a unity glass sculpture as a keepsake for their wedding. guests were invited to sprinkle glass crystals provided in the wedding colours into a glass jar, the couple and their witnesses added to it as part of the wedding ceremony and the crystals are then sent off to be fired into a unique glass ornament. instead of confetti they chose to have a bubble machine to celebrate the end of the ceremony.
after the ceremony, guests were invited down to the lawns where afternoon tea was served in vintage teacups. champagne, beer & soft drinks were also on offer in the sunshine. magician lewis belcher of plymouth wandered amongst the guests, keeping everyone entertained before the wedding breakfast began.
for the wedding breakfast tables were arranged in a novel ‘S’ shape decorated with runners, candles and other items which the newlyweds provided. guests dined on crab cakes with scallop fritters & red pepper puree followed by beef rib tip, horseradish crust & clotted cream mash. after speeches (toasted with champagne), guests moved to the lawns for tea & coffee and a fabulous dessert table laid out with almond frangipan, elderflower jelly, lemon curd meringues, lavender biscuits & vanilla panacotta with rose petal jelly. the evening guest book was wooden jigsaw pieces for their guests to write messages and then the pieces put together to make a picture.
evening entertainment took the form of live music from plymouth band the sound, a selection of cocktails & more champagne at the bar, a sweet table, marshmallows toasted on the fire & sparklers. cheese & wedding cake provided light evening snacks for any guests who could manage it!
