So where exactly are we located? Well we’re in the south west of England (I know we get a lot of overseas visitors here so ‘howdy’). We’re in the blessed county of Devon and we’re located smack on the border of Dartmoor National Park - the park border runs right down our lane. So we’re on Dartmoor but not in the National Park.
The history of Lower Grenofen
We’re blessed with 46 acres of woodland and gardens on the banks of the river Walkham. The lovely S is a keen fisherman and originally bought this place for its fishing – salmon and sea trout apparently.
The oldest part of our house was built in the 1760’s when it was the farm for Grenofen Manor. The farm was sold off from the Manor and in Victorian times became accommodation for mine workers. The victorians mined blue elvin (no, me neither) in our woods, you can still see the mining chimneys.
We love our little corner of Devon and Dartmoor. Don’t just take our word for it, it’s protected by numerous designations including the UNESCO West Devon Mining Landscape Heritage site, the Tamar Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), our woods are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) so all in all, a pretty special place.
If you get married here, you get to be part of this history too.
