We’ve always got our ear to the ground for new accommodation and the other week I popped round to see Janet who with her husband Mark has opened a new B&B on our main pick up route in Tavistock. For those of you who know Tavistock, the new place is right next door to Tavistock House Hotel on the Plymouth Road.
Jan has spent the last year completely renovating this Grade II listed Victoria townhouse, built originally by the Duke of Bedford. This elegant property now comprises 3 rooms, the penthouse room takes up the entire top floor of the building. With free standing bath, Molton Brown toiletries and towels from The White Company, you can be sure your guests’ stay will have all the comfort and luxury they need.
The Victorian room with views over the Tavistock Bowls Club is a tribute to the property’s original heritage and has lovely period touches like the wooden floor boards, bathroom fittings with modern necessities such as underfloor heating in the bathroom and 4K TV with free Netflix. Other luxuries include pocket-sprung cashmere mattresses and silk duvets.
Finally my favourite room is the Dartmoor Room with views over the bowling green and pictures of sheep – love the local touches in here.
All the suites will receive a ‘a taste of Devon’, lovely homemade or locally sourced biscuits and a taster of ‘Devon Chocolates – made by Desmond who is based in Tavistock market. Your wedding guests will also be offered a complimentary glass of prosecco, wine, beer or soft drink in their rooms, whilst they get ready for the wedding.
