Elopement cakes of 2023
In the final part of this series of a look back at our elopement cakes of 2023, we’re looking again at elopement wedding cakes decorated with flowers. This post I’ll be showing you some cakes where the flowers are a major part of the overall cake look. Wanna see?
Eve & Karl
Let’s swing by Eve & Karl’s elopement wedding from May 2023.
The flowers were super important to Eve, she was very clear in her requests which was for ‘an eclectic mix – wild hedgerow, with no one colour dominant’. The groom’s Viking heritage was sprinkled through the wedding and that included the flowers and the cake. The flower colours requested were raspberry pink, sage green, mustard & pale blue.
This is Eve’s bridal bouquet created by Jodie Austin of Moss & Mushrooms
Spectacular right? Did you spot the antlers in the bouquet? A cool viking touch.
And then let’s take a first look at the cake by Boo To A Goose. The request from Eve to Harrie the cake maker was, ‘a Nutella cake in a rough white buttercream finish with fresh flowers arranged to create a ‘wild’ look’. Got it.
The cake shared its space with the drinks trolley so it was placed on a cake stand on the drinks cart. The cake stand was on a large log slice on a pressed flower runner, all to bring in that wild look in layers. The dark lustre cake stand brought an added texture to a fairly rustic vibe.
And look, more antlers! The wedding party brought in their own knife and slice, with leather handle and sheath – the perfect finishing touch.
The toffee coloured roses, caramel lisianthums, white daisies and blue delphinium petals were brought over from the bouquet with some added pine for greenery
Here’s a close up of the unsheathed knife which they used later to cut the cake. Quite a knife and perfect for this setting.
We accented the cake set up with rustic tea lights in bark, rustic dark gold and bronze. You can see the detail here of the printed linen botanical runner which is from MagicLinen and the perfect finishing touch for this wedding.
Arranging these flowers on the cake is an art in itself – I think it takes on the same sculptural beauty as the bouquet itself…
Issy & Rich
Issy & Rich got married with us a few months later in September 2023 and their cake was also one where the flowers were a major part of the cake look.
The flower colour palette was ‘peach, blush, cream & sage (earth tones/nude)’. Ok, got that.
Let’s take a look first at Issy’s bouquet so we get a sense of how the cake flowers fit into that. You’ll see roses, astrantia, wax flowers, dhalias, hydrangeas and cosmos in there – dreamy colours.
And here’s a first look at the cake, you’ll see how the lounging area and the cake table are all set up to fit with the dining table – they look like they’re all at the same wedding which is a good thing, obvs.
The cake was set up on a separate table dressed with a natural linen cloth and a caramel printed botanical print textured over cloth. Brass and rope lanterns added the metallics and one of the ceremony arch sprays was placed behind the cake stand for added impact.
Here you can see the soft tones of the cake table against the same tones on the wedding breakfast table. Already that bridal bouquet has been placed in a vase on the table for the centrepiece.
We used the same dark lustre cake stand as the previous wedding but you can see the set up has a very different feel with bark and peach coloured glass tealights.
The size of the cake stand gives plenty of room for adding lots of flowers to really make an impact with this arrangement. Aren’t those hydrangea petals just the perfect colour for this? They were a lucky, local, last minute find by the florist.
And get a look at this fab cafe au lait dahlia, no wonder they’re the darling of the dahlia for wedding florists.
You can see more cakes on our real elopement wedding gallery, there’ll be a cake for every wedding (that’s a lotta cakes we’ve done).
Don’t forget you can download our 2024/25 brochure here where you’ll see, yep even more cakes.
