Something that I’ve seen featured increasingly on wedding blogs and real wedding articles is lighting.
As Michelle from Pocketful of Dreams wrote in her 2015 trends article for Love My Dress, lighting “is one of the most important elements for setting the right tone and ambience.” One of their predictions for 2015 is “chandeliers in unexpected places” to which we say “YES!” One of our most popular shots by the super talented Emma Solley from one of our photo shoots was this photo with the chandelier in our spectacular acer tree:
and I’ve been talking with couples booked for this year who want to bring in lighting in the trees, either with chandeliers or with hanging candles.
Lighting can transform an outdoor space in the evening, candles, lanterns, fairy lights, they all add to the creation of a magical atmosphere. Layering is also important with lighting so you have firelight and candlelight and fairylights, each one making its own contribution as these photographs taken by Ben Selway at the venue show.
Illuminated letters and words are increasingly popular and bar signs are a great way to add a bit of a club feel to your evening reception. These letters used on one of our shoots were hired from the lovely Elle at Inspire Hire. (Photography by Emma Solley)
On a practical level it’s important to be able to control the lighting so that as the daylight fades you want to bring the lighting up but later on, you want to be able to bring the lighting down – no-one is going to be throwing their best moves on the dance floor under floodlight! Here at Ever After we have dimmers on our festoon lighting and our main marquee lights so that we can control the lighting to the ambience that’s needed.
Have you thought about the lighting for your wedding?
Are you planning to get creative with lighting?
Are you going for candles or neon – or both?
We’ve got some great lighting ideas here on one of our Pinterest boards so do pop over and take a look.
