Would you like to stay here this summer…?

(Post edited to take out dates booked so these dates are currently available.  Strictly first come, first booked.)

staycation with us this summer

Wow, that was a week.   It’s only 5 days since the PM’s announcement on Monday and it feels more like 5 weeks.

We were really disappointed that restrictions on weddings aren’t being fully lifted until 21st June.   We were expecting more guests to be allowed by the start of the season in May.   But hey, we’ve gotta play by the rules so we’ve just knuckled down to it.

So this week has been spent rescheduling all our March weddings.  Every.single.one.   We had 8 weddings booked.   Then we moved onto April.  Almost all of those have been rescheduled.   Then May. Our summer season starts in May with our big Saturday weddings.   All of them booked for May have been rescheduled.   You can’t have a big wedding with only 15 people (to 17th May) and 30 people (to 21st June). And then onto the first half of June where guest restrictions are still in place. Rescheduled those too.

So email me now and let me know:

  1. Your wedding date (we gotta verify you!)
  2. Which date(s) you want and how many nights
  3. Whether you want the cottage and/or the hut and/or the annexe

Once I’ve confirmed you’re the first person to want that date, I’ll let you know and we’ll take a deposit of £100 to confirm your booking.   We can take deposit payments from tomorrow over the phone or by direct transfer.   NGL we prefer a direct transfer to the bank account because we get charged 2.75% for every card payment we take and we can’t recover that.   But if you prefer to pay by phone, no worries, we’ll do that.

The balance of the payment will be due on 1st April for everyone.   Again direct transfer or bank payment works.   If you pay by direct transfer put the date of your stay as the reference so we know what you’re paying for – can’t tell you what a difference that will make to our lives!

what’s included?

You arrive from 2pm on the first (or only) day.

Tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits are included.

Bring your own food for the evening and also bring breakfast if you’re staying one night. If you’re staying more than one night, bring more food!   Bring as much (or as little) as you want to drink.  Bring all the drinks.

Both the cottage and hut have their own bbq.   Bring charcoal if you want to use the bbq.   Utensils and matches are provided.

Wood is provided for the fire(s).

If you’re staying in the cottage, you get the terrace for the day/evening.

If you’re staying in the hut, you get the bar area for the day/evening.

You’ve got full access to the gardens and the woods.   The only other people you might see on the day are the people staying in the other unit and the lovely S and I.   There are plenty of places to sit in the garden, the river walk, the ponds, the apex, the main lawns.   Plenty of open air.

Check out is 11am the morning after.   If you stay more than 1 night you obviously don’t check out til the last day!

Any questions, hit me up by email [email protected]

Prices

How much?

We’ve tried to keep this as simple as possible.  Same price no matter which month and whatever day of the week.

We have to charge VAT on the hire rate but we can pass on the reduced rate of 5% which applies to hospitality right now.   That rate is in force til 31 March.   It will probably be extended in next week’s budget but I’m guessing it could end when hotels can open up again on 17th May.   We’ll know next week.

As a wedding venue we’re not covered by the reduced VAT for our usual wedding hire because we’re seen as providing a ‘package’  If a venue provides accommodation only with nothing else included, then we can reduce the VAT to 5%. So, bring your own breakfast!   Not kidding, really do bring your own breakfast.   We’ll cover what you need to bring further below in this post.  (Food and drink really, it’s pretty easy).

Ok, back to those prices – don’t forget to add the pesky vat at 5% to the prices below:

Cottage

1 night             £300

2 nights           £500

3 nights           £700

If you’ve got children and you’d like them to stay with you in the cottage, there’s no charge for babies or young children where you bring their cot.   If the children use our sofa bed or our pull out beds, there’s an extra charge of £20 per bed to cover extra laundry.

Hut

1 night             £200

2 nights           £350

3 nights           £500

Annexe

1 night             £100

2 nights           £170

3 nights           £250

If you’ve got friends/family you’d like to bring along you’re welcome to hire the hut for them.   Until 17th May you can meet up with another household outside.  From 17th May you can meet up with another household indoors too.

Don’t forget the annexe is only available for extra people in your household or your support bubble.

If you’ve hired the cottage AND the hut, you’ve got the use of the terrace AND the bar and you can meet the other household in a covered outside space.   I told you we had a plan…

May 2021 rules

The rules change again (of course they do sigh…) on 17th May.

The change from 17th May is that the rule of 6 or 2 households meeting will also apply to indoors.   So if you’ve hired both the cottage and the hut, you can meet indoors with another household.   But coz we’re nice people (you knew that already right?) cottage hirers can still use the terrace and hut hirers can still use the bar.   And yep, if you hire the cottage and hut you get the terrace and bar.

The annexe is not available to rent on its own because it doesn’t have its own kitchen facilities – it’s not self-contained.   But if you’ve got children or someone else in your household, you could share it with them if you rent the cottage or the hut.   So to be clear, the annexe is only available if you hire either the cottage or the hut.   And it’s only available for people in your household or support bubble.

April 2021 rules

The Govt has put in place the following rules from 12th April:

  • You can stay overnight in self-contained accommodation (ie no shared facilities) away from your home
  • You can only share that accommodation with people in your household or support bubble
  • You can meet up outdoors only with 6 people (remember the ole rule of 6 from lockdowns past?) or up to 2 households.   That means if you hire the cottage, you can mix with another household in the hut SO LONG AS you stay outdoors.   You still can’t mix indoors and you must keep to those rules whilst you’re here.

Both the cottage and the hut have lovely outdoor decks where you can meet outdoors. Yay!  And of course you have the use of the whole garden so there’s plenty of space.

What if it rains?  Boo.  Well, kinda but don’t worry we’ve got a plan for that.   If you’ve hired the hut or the cottage AND you’re not mixing with anyone, then you’re just indoors and it’s all good.

But there’s more.   If you hire the cottage, you get exclusive use of the terrace by the fire.   And if you hire the hut you get exclusive use of the bar.  Bring your own drinks and you’re golden.   The bar has a separate entrance from the terrace so you can come and go without breaking the social distance rules.   The screens for the terrace and the bar will be rolled up so you’re still outside, you’ve just got shelter overhead from the rain.

If you’ve hired the cottage AND the hut, you’ve got the use of the terrace AND the bar and you can meet the other household in a covered outside space.   I told you we had a plan…

We’re also extending the offer to couples who have booked to get married here but haven’t yet had their wedding.   Some of those couples would have got married last year or this year but well….covid so we don’t want you to miss out.  If you’ve paid your deposit to secure your wedding date – you’re included. We love to welcome new friends too!

What’s available?

There are 2 self contained accommodation units here, the honeymoon cottage and the shepherd’s hut.

You’ll pretty much know about the honeymoon cottage and what that looks like b/c most of you have already stayed here.   In case that was a while ago and your memory is dimming (or is that just me) here’s a reminder of what it looks like:

So yeah, it’s been busy but all the rescheduling has been done, all new dates agreed and the list of changes sent off to the Registrars office.

Self-contained accommodation

But most clouds have a silver lining right?  And we’ve found one.   Under the new Govt rules, hotels and B&B’s have to stay closed til 17th May.   There’s an exception for self-contained accommodation from 12th April for one household with no shared facilities.   That’s us – yay!

And since we’ve had to reschedule so many weddings, we’ve now got dates available where we did have weddings and now…we don’t. So we can open our accommodation for lovely couples who’ve already got married with us to come back and stay.  We love to welcome back old friends!

Oh yeah, remember it now?

And the shepherd’s hut.  That’s S’s private fishing hut right on the river.  And this is it…

There’s one more unit which is the annexe.   Here are some pics:

Prices
